My 5-month GSD puppy is tired. Could it be arthritis or growth issues?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | 5 months and 21 days old | 12 lbs

I have a German shepherd of 5 months and I am concerned about his height. I hope it's not arthritis since he gets tired very early. Please revert back asap. Thankyou.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am not sure whether Boozer's height is abnormal or not without measurements or pictures. I would be very surprised if he has arthritis at 5 months of age. If he tires quickly and this is new it could be panosteitis, hypertrophic osteodystrophy, lyme disease, hip dysplasia, heart disease or other illness. If he continues having exercise fatigue I would have your Vet do an exam and discuss how much activity he is doing before he tires. He is very young and shouldn't have the stamina of an adult. I hope this helps and I wish you and Boozer the best!
