Puppy ate magnet, now sluggish. When should I take him to vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 7 months and 27 days old | 32 lbs

my 7 mo old puppy ate a magnetic controller joystick three days ago. He hasn't passed it yet and today he's sluggish and sleeping more than usual. He's having regular bowel movements and hasn't vomited at all. How concerned should I be? Should I bring him into the vet at this point?

If he is acting lethargic then it would be a good idea to have your vet examine him to determine if there is a problem. Your vet can take an x-ray to evaluate his gastrointestinal tract and locate the magnet and decide if any treatment is needed.
