My senior cat has a growing scab on his eyelid. Is it cancer?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 17 years and 10 months old

Hi there, my 17 year old white cat has developed a large scab located above his eyelid. This scab was first noticed around a year ago by the vet and it has grown ever since. The scab is quite large and thick, it looks very heavy on his eye. His nose is also sore and was diagnosed as chronic rhinitis several years ago. He has also developed a lump on his ear. Please can I have some advice on what any options are? I am very worried. His behaviour is the same, he may be sleeping more. Thank-you.

Poor Moto! I am concerned that could be a type of cancer called squamous cell carcinoma. The only way to know for sure is to biopsy the lesion. He should have a work-up with blood-work and x-rays and also discuss aspirating and/or biopsying his lesions/masses. You should call your vet and schedule an examination.
