Bulldog puppy with broken elbow won't eat. How to comfort him?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bulldog | Male | unneutered | 26 lbs

Our English bulldog puppy has had a broken elbow for 3 days now. We took him to the vet today and found that he did indeed have a broken elbow. He would need surgery out of town. In the meantime, what can I do to comfort him? Before the visit to the vet, he was eating and drank regularly. Today he has not wanted to eat a single thing. The only way he drinks water is if I give it to him in a spoon. He was given pain medication but he doesn’t seem any better.

I would call your veterinarian in the morning and let them know he is not eating or drinking. This could be from an upset stomach from the pain medication. I would talk to them about getting a different medication and schedule the surgery as soon as they can. I would also crate him or keep him confined as much as possible so he doesn't injury himself even further. I hope Pudgy does well with the surgery and recovery and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
