Pet's info: Dog | Shiba Inu | Female | spayed | 1 year and 1 month old | 15 lbs
we have a one year old Shiba Inu pup. Lately, with the inclement weather, she has taken to urinating inside the house. We put her outside and she waits to be let back in and then urinates inside the house. Any suggestions? We thought she might have a UTI, but the tests were all negative.

One last point, normal urine tests in dogs with lower urinary tract signs are sometimes wrong. Increased frequency of urination, drinking more water, inappropriate urination could be signs of an occult UTI in the face of normal tests.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Abigail Rose. Two things to try- If she fails to urinate outside then either crate her until you can take her out again or put a leash on her and keep her by your side until you take her out again. Good luck

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I would recommend having her examined by a veterinarian and having her urine tested to check for a urinary tract infection. If an animal that has always been normal suddenly begins to have abnormal urinary behavior, it is best to rule out an infection of the urinary tract as the cause first. If testing comes back normal, this could be behavioral. You can start by having her meet the person outside of the house so that she voids outside rather than inside and you can then reward her for voiding outside. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
