My cat has liver disease!!! What is the dosage and the frequency for liquid milkthistle?

The recommend dose is 1 drop per two pounds, so Bubba should get 5 drops total. It's also recommended to divide the dose for two or more administrations per day, so I would give him three drops in the morning and two at night. I hope this helps!

I suggest for most uses, using use up to 100 mg per 10 pounds of body weight of milk thistle extract daily. Split the daily amount into 2 or 3 doses over the course of the day. Example: 13kg = 28.6 pounds. I would round up to 30#. 30 pounds x 100 mg/10# = 300mg per day. I would give 100mg three times per day or somewhere close to that dosing regimen. Too high a dose can cause an upset stomach, gas, or mild diarrhea; these are easily resolved by giving less. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

How much milk thistle can I give her a day? She weights approximately 70-75 lbs. I've read every 25 lbs they can have 50 mg. I've also read she can have that two times a day. Is this true?
The recommended dose for this supplement is 2mg/lb. Always check with your veterinarian or certified veterinary homeopath before giving a new supplement to your dog. Milk thistle should not be given to healthy dogs as a daily supplement. Caution should also be exercised when the source and strength of the supplement is unknown. Your vet may have a preferred (and verified) source or vendor.

I do take supplement SILYMARIN MILK THISTLE tablets 400mg twice daily for my healthy liver so will it be safe to give this to bruno for his liver to remain healthy in future ? He weigh 34 kg if yes then how much dose will be good ? Can silymarin caus
Dogs are typically given milk thistle in combination with Vitamin E, Zinc and s-adenosyl methionine for liver disease. The dose is usually lower when used with these other supplements. Doses ranging from 5 mg/kg to 50 mg/kg per day have been reported to likely be safe, so 400 mg twice daily would be within this dose range. I do not typically recommend giving this supplement unless there is evidence of underlying liver disease because it is not likely to be helpful. There does not seem to be evidence of kidney disease or other problems when milk thistle supplements are used long term in dogs, but there are no studies in dogs without liver disease. I would recommend checking with your veterinarian before starting this supplement since it can potentially cause problems when given in conjunction with some other medications.

Hello, and thanks for using Boop by Petco. Unfortunately, Denamarin only comes in tablet form. You could try pill pockets, or potentially crush it and mix it with a bite of canned all-meat baby food. If that doesn't work, and you're really struggling to get the medication into him, I recommend reaching out to your vet. We understand that many cats are nearly impossible to get pills into! There are other liver support options, such as milk thistle, that can come in liquid form if you need a "plan B" option. It wouldn't be quite as good as Denamarin, but better than nothing! I'm sorry to hear that your kitty has liver disease. Unfortunately we legally cannot provide you with doses of medication for your pet without first doing an in person examination. I would consult with the vet that diagnosed Crystal with this condition and they should be more than willing to give you the proper doses of the medication you are inquiring about. Also I would highly recommend getting Crystal on the rx diet for liver disease. Your vet can give you a prescription for this food. This is the mainstay treatment for liver disease in pets. You should also get Crystal on Denamarin as well to help preserve liver function. I hope that your kitty Crystal does well moving forward. Best wishes and take care.

You can try finding this in milk thistle, silymarin, or Vitamin E. Though none of them will actually heal the liver. They, and Denamarin, are antioxidants that can help protect the liver from further damage, but they cannot reverse damage that has already occurred.

I have 175 mg powdered milk thistle I know I can give him up to a 200 mg a day but how many times a day should I give it to him and should I mix it with anything
You only need to give the milk thistle once a day. It will probably be easiest if you mix it in with Andy's food so he doesn't realize it is there. It may mix more easily in canned or moisten food than in dry kibble. You could also dissolve it in water and feed it to him through a syringe if he won't eat it on the food. I would recommend feeding a specialist diet formulated for cats with liver disease such as royal canin hepatic or hills l/d. These are high calorie, easily digestible with limited liver function and supplemented with antioxidants and liver protectants. These can be diluted and syringe fed if necessary

Thank you for using Boop by Petco! Your vet is correct in saying that the subcutaneous fluids given to animals are the same as those given to humans. However, due to their pH, certain fluids can burn while being given subcutaneously as they react with the normal fluids in the body. I recommend asking your vet what type of fluids they recommend, what amount your cat needs, and to show you how to administer them. I sometimes recommend a numbing cream to facilitate the administration, only if there are no underlying medical conditions. If your cat has liver issues, fluids may help correct some of the symptoms, but other issues such as adequate nutrition need to be taken into account as well. Many cats with renal disease get picky with food so you may end up trying all the brands at some point or alternating between them. You need to feed Mercy a prescription diet for the renal disease. The brand Royal Canin tends to be the most palatable. They make 3 varieties of kibble and 3 varieties of canned food that are all for renal disease. They have different smells/textures...etc so just pick a bag (or all 3) and try it. You will need to ask your normal veterinarian about continuing the milk thistle. The renal diets are lower in protein, higher in fat and higher in fatty acids/antioxidants and this can be beneficial for the liver depending on the cause of liver elevations. Your normal vet will best advise you. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
