Is my 12-year-old pug okay? He's breathing poorly and sleeping more.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Male | neutered | 12 lbs

My pug or I want to say 12 years is not breathing well. He is cuddling more and sleeping more. He is also cuddling more than he used to but he doesn’t seem to want to touch me at all. Could you give me an answer on if my poor puggy is going to be ok.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Some common issues in pugs and other small breed dogs that can result in trouble breathing include heart disease and pneumonia. There are other conditions such as inflammatory and infection diseases that can affect dogs. I highly recommend that you have Leo evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics include thoracic radiographs and bloodwork. Good luck and have a good night!
