Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Bengal | Female | spayed

My new cat Kiki its been with us for 5 days already and she hides a lot, almost all day long under the bed and is very sneaky as long as my kids (5years,4 and 2 years are awake or at home) only comes out when they are not around, she nver scratches or hiss at anybody but she is not either a lap cat for what i can see, how can i help her feel more comfortable in our home? She is 5 years, spayed and healthy and she eats and drink good too.

It will take time for Kiki to get used to being in your home. There are some cats that will not come out while kids are around at all. I would just give her time and when she wants to come out just give her attention if she would like it. It can take up to a full 2 weeks for their personalities come out. So I would still give her time, but know she may always be a cat who only comes out when the kids are not around. I would make sure the kids are not being too loud if she does come out with them and just let her be if she does come around. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
