What is this raised bump on my cat's head? Is it serious?

Poor Sunny! Since the lump seems to be changing the orientation of his eye, this indicates that it is either occupying space within his skull or is putting pressure on the cranial nerves going to the eye. Possible causes of lesion include a benign or malignant mass, abscess, fungal infection, among others. Even though Sunny seems comfortable, this type of lesion is likely causing some degree of discomfort or pain. Animals are generally pretty good at masking signs of pain as a natural defense mechanism. At this point, I recommend taking Sunny to his vet for evaluation and treatment of the underlying issue. Anytime a new mass is noticed, I always recommend having it evaluated to see what it is and if anything needs to be done about it. Unfortunately, we can't tell anything about a mass by just looking at it. Your vet can perform a simple test called a fine needle aspirate where they use a small needle to collect some cells from the mass, then look at them under the microscope. They may even need to send the cells to the lab for a pathologist to examine them, so we know what the mass is. If it is benign, you might not need to do anything about the mass at all, but if they see cells that worry them, they might recommend removing the mass. We very commonly see benign masses in cats that are filled with fluid which are easy to diagnose, but your vet would need to collect a sample to verify what the mass is. Good luck! The black raised area could be a tumor, but all the other little ulcerative areas look like she might have a skin infection. I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian soon. They may recommend removal of the black mass for biopsy. She may need antibiotics as well. A picture might be really helpful in giving you a better answer but if I had to guess based on age, rapid onset, etc., I’d vote for an abscess (usually from another cat or wild animal but poking it could do the same). This is more likely if she goes outdoors and less likely (but not impossible) if she doesn’t. Other things could be fungal infection, cyst, or other possibilities. Either way, I suggest seeing your vet as soon as possible. He or she will feel it and decide whether to lance it. If it does appear to be an abscess, antibiotics will likely be prescribed. This may be an abscess, a cyst or a tumor. You should have it examined by your veterinarian, as it is not possible to distinguish these by just looking at a photo. An abscess can usually be treated with antibiotics and/or be lanced, and a cyst can be evacuated. To identify a tumor, your vet may want to do a fine needle aspirate (he takes some material from the bump with a needle and then looks at it under the microscope) to determine whether the mass is concerning.

It is nice of you to check up on your fiance's cat. This bump doesn't seem alarming to me. It is small, the same color as the rest of the skin, and doesn't seem to bother Shadow. I would recommend keeping an eye on this small bump for the next week or two to see if it goes down gradually on its own. If it doesn't or seems to grow or bother Shadow, then you should consider getting it tested through your vet to make sure it isn't something to be concerned about. The only thing you can do is place an e-collar on him if he does start to scratch at it. Otherwise it's best to just leave it be. I wish you all the best with Shadow. Poor Pablo! I would recommend to watch the mass closely. If it isn't changing or growing then I would recommend to just leave it alone. If you notice any changes or he starts messing with it then I would see your vet to look at it. Your vet will be able to tell you whether it is benign or malignant. Also they will be able to tell you whether or not it needs to be surgically removed. I hope this helps!

I would recommend that Scooter have this bump checked out. An abscess is an infection, and I would not expect it to be there 6 months large. It is more likely to be a cyst or even a tumor. A vet can evaluate the bump, and may stick a needle inside to collect a sample of cells to look at under a microscope. Once they have a better idea of what it is, they can tell you if it needs to be surgically removed or not.

Lesions above the eyes can be the result of scratching due to itchy ears from an infection. Cats can be private and she may scratch while she is alone.
