What's this red, dry, white-edged rash on my dog's legs and shoulder?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 7 years and 10 months old | 48 lbs

My dog has a strange rash on her back legs and 2 on her shoulder. It's red with dry white patch around the outside. Any idea what it could be? Is there a way to attach a photo?

Hello, sorry to hear about Faith. Those appear like collarettes secondary to superficial skin infection. If faith has known allergies, this could the the cause of the collarettes. However, other potential diagnosis could be associated with ring worm, fleas or mites which seem to be less likely. Your veterinarian may offer to obtain a sample of her skin to look for bacteria, mites or parasites that would warrant medical management. Hope this helps and best of luck
