Why is my dog acting strange, hiding, sad, and his back legs weak?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Male | unneutered | 7 years old

Hi I have a jack Russel who’s 8 years old, he seems to be acting really strange lately. He keeps hiding and doesn’t want attention, this isn’t him at all, he’s always been a fuss pot and loves attention. He seeks really sad and his back legs look like they are caving in. He also keep circling to try and get comfy, can someone suggest what’s wrong with him?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear that Jack does not feel well. These could all be signs of discomfort or pain. However, those signs are rather non-specific and while I agree with you that something is likely wrong with him, further work-up would be needed to know what is causing him to be unwell. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. Likely diagnostics include bloodwork and radiographs if he appears to be in discomfort. Good luck and I hope he does well!
