Why is my puppy tired, whining, and rubbing ears after a cold night?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | unspayed | 7 months and 11 days old | 30 lbs

hello! Concerned about my 7 month old pup. we were shooting targets two days ago and the noise scared her and she ran off. She was gone for an entire day and was found outside so she was exposed to 30 degree temps all night. Since she's been home she has been acting very fatigued and let's out small whines every so often and has been rubbing her ears/top of her head with her paws. First question what do her symptoms point to? Second does it seem we have we accidentally damaged her hearing?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! These could be signs of some form of trauma that is causing her pain or discomfort. I do not think that you damaged her hearing. It would be a good idea to have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. It is important to check her for any signs of pain or an internal injury that she could have suffered when she was outside. Good luck! I really hope that she does well!
