Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Male | unneutered | 10 lbs
Our neighborhood cat has been lethargic and not eating lately; in the past few days has been drooling this nasty brown smelly stuff. It's on his leg now and he won't groom it off. His previous owner, before he became the neighborhood cat, never provided vet care (once wrapped a neck wound with a sock and let him go). I took the cat to get his rabies shot, can't afford too awful much. I'm concerned about him Though and I'm trying to find answers. there are no vet clinics in this area open til Mon

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Fluffernutter. Most likely he is having some periodontal problems in the mouth. Gum inflammation (gingivitis), tooth abscesses involving soft tissue and bone infection. This is most likely the cause of what you are seeing. It's also possible that there is an oral mass (tumor) in the mouth. I would advise trying to find a local cat rescue group in the area to help you with this guy. Many communities have a support system for these Community Cats. They will also help to get him neutered and vaccinated if there is such a program in your area. Reach out to the local groups and see if they can help with his care. There may be a low-cost clinic in your area willing to help with him. Good luck
