My cat has a swollen pink area near his anus. How much is a vet visit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Male | 7 years and 10 months old | 12 lbs

My cat has a sore or abscess looking pink swollen area in the 12 O'clock position slightly above his anus. It has been like this for about a week and doesn't seem to go away. He eats regularly as well as drinks regularly and uses his box (pee and poop). He does seem to strain a little when pooping but doesn't cry. I am trying to figure out how expensive the vet trip might be, I am a student and have limited funds. Thank you kindly!

I would at least take Odin in for a physical examination. It is hard to say exactly what the swollen area would be without seeing it. Usually just for a visit it can be anywhere from $30 - $60. At my clinic our office visit is $42.95. I would look in your area at low cost clinics and call around to see exactly what they charge. Once you are there they can give you more information at what it could possibly be and what the next step would be for Odin. Remember you can always upload up to 3 pictures for us to see. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
