Why is my dog losing balance and falling over without other symptoms?

That is very unusual. There are several things that come to mind that could cause the signs. Ingesting toxins, an inner ear infection, stroke or viral infections are all possible. Anytime a pet appears off-balance you should be concerned and I recommend to take Nigel in to see a veterinarian right away. Hello Aim. Thank you for using Boop by Petco. Sorry that Cooper is not well. This is definitely not normal. Dogs do get something called vestibular disease (a king of vertigo) that can throw their balance off but it usually happens in older dogs. I have never seen it in a 4 year old dog. I would be very worried that he may have ingested something toxic. I really think you should get him examined by a vet as soon as possible.

Hello, It sounds like Taisie is experiencing some neurologic abnormalities. It is hard to say without physically examining her what the problem is, but some possibilities are spinal pain, a herniated disc, vestibular (inner ear) infection or disease, or a brain tumor. Any of these issues could cause drastic changes in balance and falling, but the treatment for each one would be very different. I would recommend taking Taisie into her veterinarian to be examined. Poor guy. I suspect he may have severe spondylosis of his spine and also it’s possible he may have vestibular disease which is a neurological condition that can cause pets to lose their balance, get nauseous and walk in circles or to one side. This conditon usually also causes pets to have a head tilt. Spondylosis of the spine however isn’t something that will go away, but you can manage the pain with pet friendly medications (i.e. Rimadyl, Tramadol, etc) through your veterinarian. Hello. It sounds like she may have had a mild episode of a condition called Vestibular Syndrome, an imbalance in the inner ear(s). If it has been a while since she saw a vet, it would not be a good idea to have her checked out. At this age, 2chainz is considered a senior citizen & things can begin to change. Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Peter! How old is Peter? The most common condition that causes trouble walking, falling over, head tilt and trembling is Vestibular disease. This is a problem with the balance center in either the brain or the inner ear. Possible causes are an ear infection, stroke, low thyroid, a brain tumor or if he is just old it can be idiopathic (meaning we don't know why). I have seen dogs become Vestibular and then be normal that quickly, though usually the signs can persist for up to 2 weeks. I am not sure about the relation to the food you are feeding. If he shows the symptoms again I would immediately take him to your Vet for an exam. Consider video taping it so you can show them in case it goes away quickly again. Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Dixie! Since she is so young I really worry about her eating a toxin. Another possibility though it is not common in such a young dog is vestibular disease. This is when the balance center is off and they feel like they are spinning. Their eyes tend to be moving abnormally, they have a head tilt, fall to one direction, walk drunk and vomit. I would take her to an open emergency hospital to be evaluated. I wish you the best!

Hi there and thanks for posting on Boop by Petco. I am sorry to hear Athena is not feeling well- sounds like there is a lot going on. It is hard to say what exactly the cause is of Athena's symptoms but it sounds like she may have an ear infection which can contribute to loss of balance, however if she has loss of balance, nystagmus (eyes darting back and forth), loss of bladder control and no appetite, there may be something more here at play then just an ear infection. There may be a brain tumor or cancerous process elsewhere in the body that may have metastasized to the brain which may be contributing to Athena's symptoms.
