My canary's leg is swollen from its band. What should I do now?

I bought my canary at Petco. He is two years old. He never liked the band on his leg. Today it's swollen and he can't put weight on it. What can I do without stressing him out? Laura 312-520-8642 Flagstaff AZ

Hi Laura and sorry to hear about Tang's leg, If the band is constricting blood flow to/from the leg - this is an emergency. Please take him to the vet ASAP to have the band removed safely. Do not try to remove it yourself as it is easy to fracture their bone while trying to do so. The longer it stays like this, the greater the chances that he will lose it!
