What medical care is recommended for 8-week-old rescue kittens?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 7 days old

Hi, I have two rescue kittens, approximately 8 weeks old, one male and one female. I live in Brockport, NY. The closest Petco is in Greece and it appears they have vet clinic hours from 9AM - Noon tomorrow. What is recommended to have done for my kittens. They have received no medical care so far. The woman who found them abandoned outside bathed them and removed a tic from the female. Other than that nothing has been done.

Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach! I would recommend deworming the kittens and starting their first vaccinations (FeLV and FVRCP vaccinations). These vaccinations will need to be repeated two more times after the initial vaccine. These vaccinations will help develop immunity against Feline Leukemia, Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus and Panleukopenia. I would also see if you can bring a fecal sample in for both of them to check for intestinal parasites. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
