When should a 5-month-old Boston Terrier puppy get its rabies shot?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 2 days old | 12 lbs

I just purchased a 5 mths old Boston Terrier and I wanted to know how old he should be in order to get his rabies shot. The breeder said a year but different vets say different things so I’m not sure

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Dallas is very cute. So the breeder may be right. If Dallas already had a rabies shot, the next rabies is due a year from that date. They should be able to provide you with that information. If he hasn't had a rabies shot then I would advise seeing your vet for the required and recommended vaccines. Each state is a little different with regards to rabies laws and vaccinations. So follow the advice of your local vet. Rabies shots can be given as early as 12 weeks of age. Again, your local vet knows the laws in your state. Good luck
