Why is my dog limping again after his leg injury seemed to heal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 13 days old

Hi, my dog hurt himself while running 6 days ago. His body or just the front right leg hit a wall. After this injury he was limping with his right front leg for 4 days but each day it got better. We made him rest the first 2 days. After those 4 days I couldn't see him limping anymore while walking or running. Today I threw the ball to him a few times, first time since the injury and after just a few runs he was limping again and he decided to lie down and stop the play. Thank you for your help!

Poor Jengo, I would recommend taking Jengo to a vet since this is the second time he is limping. It is important to have an x-ray to make sure there are no underlying issues like a fracture or even cartilage damage. Sometimes, dogs will get soft tissue injuries just like people. Soft tissue injuries can actually take a long time to heal. Jengo most likely needs restricted activity for 2 weeks or more with slow progression back to normal activity. Most dogs will not restrict there activity long enough to completely heal. I hope that helps and Jengo makes a speedy recovery.
