I have a 12 year old yellow Labrador with diabetes. He takes Levemir. I worked late and got up late so Teddie ate his first meal at 12:45 PM and got 10.5 units of insulin. Me and my mom just went outside to take the trash out a few minutes ago and he busted through her bedroom gate and ate about 2.5 cups of cat food! I don't know what to do about insulin....Should I give him his evening insulin since he just ate a huge amount of cat food or wait until later?

I would wait about 12 hours after his last dose of insulin. I would also make sure he eats something before giving the insulin at that time. If you are not going to be up at the 12 hour mark I would recommend holding off the insulin until tomorrow. If you give the insulin now you risk his glucose going to low even if he just ate. Just know he may develop diarrhea from the cat food. I hope this helps and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
