Chihuahua puppy has bleeding skin bump. Should I use cream or see vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | 3 months old | 4 lbs

My female chihuahua is 4 moths old. I got her three days ago. She had what looked like a underskin birth mark like a little bump. Yesterday it peeled off and it looked dry and today there's blood on it and it looks worse. I'm really worried so I called the store and they said to put antibiotics on it but I don't know which and how. And they said that she should heal that's it's not serious but I'm worried. Should I take her to a vet or should I put a cream antibiotic on it I have hydrocortisone.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Tina. Not sure what is going on here but I would be concerned about a bacterial or fungal infection. Another possibility would be a skin problem related to a mite called Demodex. If you use anything on it, you should use Neosporin without cortisone. Cortisone can delay healing so just use Neosporin ointment until you can get her checked by your veterinarian. If Tina is scratching it, you should get an Elizabethan collar at your local pet store. If this lesion resolves then you don't have to worry about it. But if this persists, worsens, or other signs develop then your vet should take a look at this. Possible tests include skin scrape, fungal culture/test, among others. Once a diagnosis is made, a treatment plan can be implemented. Good luck and have a safe holiday
