Is ivermectin safe for my budgie if he ingests a small quantity?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | 1 year and 1 month old

My budgie has the habit of preening and picking at the back of his neck and at the feather joints. Putting ivermectin 0.1 on the back of it's neck will cause any problem if it ingests a small quantity of it?

Putting Ivermectin on coco is the treatment for skin mites. If Coco does not have skin mites than the ivermectin is not needed. typically if placed high enough on the back Coco will not really be able to ingest it. I would be more concerned about behavioral issues causing over plucking. I would make sure Coco has enough toys, mirrors and is located in a low traffic area to help decrease in stress. I hope that helps
