My Shih Tzu has a lump under her rib cage. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | unspayed | 2 years old | 8 lbs

Hi, I'm feeling a round shape lump on my shih tzu daughter's left side for a while, just a little under her rib cage that you can see the exact place I'm pointing in the photos. What do you think that lump might be and what should I do about it? Should I be scared? Thank you so much...

Lumps can be solid or fluid filled, benign or malignant. It is very difficult to determine which without a physical exam and diagnostics. If the lump is not bothering Poncik or impeding movement, then you can monitor it for rapid change or. Since you are obviously concerned though, you can have her examined by your veterinarian. The vet can perform a fine needle aspirate in the clinic to collect samples for pathology. Once results are returned, you and your vet can decide the best course of action.
