Why is my dog vomiting, peeing often, and her pee looks green?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My dog has been vomiting for the past 2-3 days, only two times. I came home today and she peed 9 times, which is very unusual. Upon closer inspection her pee appeared to dry to a green, lime green color, and was bubbly. From the research I did I suspect of a liver disease and I am very concerned.

It is definitely an odd finding for the urine to be green in a dog and would actually be more suggestive of severe muscle or kidney injury. If this were a reptile or bird with green urine then I would be more suspicious of liver disease. I'm actually suspicious that the green frothy substance was bile-tinged vomit rather than urine. They can have vomit that looks like this when they are vomiting profusely and on an empty stomach. Either way, this is not a condition that I would wait on much longer. It's best if you can take your dog to an emergency vet as soon as possible. They will be able to have a better understanding of her condition and can at-least give some treatment to make her feel better. If you would like to discuss this more, you may consider having an online consult with one of our Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach Experts. I hope that helps and she feels better soon.
