Why is my dog's face swollen with a pus wound after recent seizures?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 45 lbs

My dog just got out of the vet Monday after having major seizures on Friday. I noticed last night that he is messing with a sore on his face and the sore has caused his face to become swollen on that side. It looks like a puss filled wound below his eye about an inch. What could be hurting my baby..? Is it severe?

My first 2 thoughts are either a tooth root abscess or he could have scratched himself during one if his seizures and now it has abscessed. I would definitely encourage you to have a follow up appointment with your veterinarian today. He wil likely need antibiotics. In the meantime a warm water compress to help with the discharge would be a good idea. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon! Thank you for using Pet Coach.
