Is it safe to walk my 7-week-old puppy after his first shots?

I recommend to wait until after the second set of vaccines (although he still will not be fully protected). If you back yard is fenced in, inaccessible to stray dogs/wild canids, and no dog who survived parvo has been in your back yard for the past 2 years, it should be fine to take him there to play. Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! I think there is a fine line between socialization and trying to protect them from infectious diseases. I think it is fine to walk not fully vaccinated puppies on sidewalks, roads and parks that don't have a lot of dog traffic. No dog parks or doggie day care. Only allow play with dogs that are fully vaccinated and not sick. I just tell owners to be smart about it! I hope this helps!

This is to protect him against diseases he could potentially get from not being vaccinated. For this time period, you could play with him in the backyard for example. Ideally, no. It would not be safe to have Glock around other dogs until he is at least 14 weeks of age which is the age at which he would typically need to be to have his last booster of the Distemper Parvo core vaccine, and at which age he would also have had his other two core vaccines, Rabies and Bordatella (which protects against the respiratory infection often referred to as Kennel Cough). The reason for this is that puppy immune systems are still highly vulnerable to the parvovirus infection in particular, even after a single booster (he will likely need the Distemper Parvo vaccine 3-4 times, 3-4 weeks apart before he is fully protected/vaccinated). The parvovirus can easily cause life threatening diarrhea, dehydration and weakness requiring extensive ER care which can often cost thousands of dollars and isn’t always successful. It is safest to keep him indoors / away from other dogs/ or at least away from public sidewalks and definitely away from dog parks until about 14 weeks o

The whole cycle for the specific disease that it is used has to be completed and at least 3-4 weeks pass for the dog to really be protected against a disease as that is what the immune system needs to build immunity. So the pup that is vaccinated is not protected yet and should not be taken outside and your other pup should also get vaccinated to get protection against those preventable diseases. Best of luck!

Hello, yes you can take your puppy out for walks however, you increase the likelihood that he may become sick. Because he has been vaccinated it makes it less likely, however, you should consider only allowing your puppy around other pets whom you know are fully vaccinated. We are most concerned with diseases such as Parvovirus, distemper, influenza, and kennel cough. I agree 100% with your vet that the 6 week shot was very likely ineffective, so he does need the last vaccine to make sure he can fight off any disease he might come across. Better safe than sorry. The very real risk of putting her on the ground (public sidewalk, dog park, even petstore floor) is that she could contract a disease called parvovirus which is shed in the feces of infected dogs. If she walks over parvovirus particles (where other owners scooped up infected feces), and licks her paws, she could contract parvovirus which usually results in serve life threatening diarrhea and dehydration and requires expensive overnight care at an emergency hospital often lasting several days. Puppies are usually vaccinated against distemper, parvovirus, adenovirus, and parainfluenza virus at 8 weeks, again at 12 weeks and again at 14 weeks with the last booster at 14 + weeks of age in order for immunity to be effective for a full year. (Other vaccines include Bordatella at 8+ weeks of age, Rabies at 12+ weeks of age, lepto and Lyme at 12+ weeks of age -lepto and Lyme each need to be boosted 3-4 weeks after the initial dose to provide a year's worth of immunity and are often not given i

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! At 10 weeks of age, regardless of what vaccines Ted had previously, he is not old enough to consider him fully vaccinated. We vaccinate starting at 7-8 weeks and give the DHPP (or whatever version of that vaccine) every 3-4 weeks until they receive TWO past 12 weeks of age. I have seen dogs who got their last vaccine at 12 weeks still get parvo (at risk breeds like rottweilers and pit bulls). So while I am not in full agreement with the reason you were given I agree that he is not fully vaccinated yet. There is a fine line between protecting him from disease and socialization. He can be socialized with well vaccinated dogs and can go for walks on side walks. He shouldn't play with puppies or dogs where you do not know their vaccine status or play in dog parks.
