Are smelly glands near male rabbit testicles normal? How to clean?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | unneutered | 6 lbs

My two male adult rabbits have slits above their testicles on each side that when pulled opens up with a certain smell and black or white chunks inside. Is this normal?

Yes. This is normal anatomy for a male rabbit. They can get pretty stinky though, so cleaning them occasionally if you start to notice a smell is a good idea. Just gently soak with warm water and cotton balls to clean. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
