i was given an 6 week old puppy about 3 days ago from a friend. she had been mistreated at her previous owners home. When i received her she had swollen eyes and was very skinny covered in fleas. Fleas are now takencare of.. &I am going to the vet tomorrow but I'd like to knowwhat they may tell me. Her eyes have gotten a little better but are still very swollen and have discharge that is sometimes green. I've now noticed she has scabs around her mouth that She can't stop itching. Freckles could have a couple things going on. First she could have something simple called blepharitis which is inflammation of the eyelids. She could have a scratch on her eyes but she could also have something called Puppy Strangles. This is also known as juvenile cellulitis. This causes inflammation around the eyelids. The cause of this is unknown but can occur anywhere from 3 weeks to 4 months of age. Treatment for this is a long course of steroids, sometimes topical medications and oral antibiotics.
