Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 70 lbs
Hi a few days ago my dog threw some plastic from a small Tupperware container. I caught in time so only ate a little he threw up and two days passed and today he pooped some of it out. Should I take him to the vet? He’s eating normally and has been using the bathroom regularly.

As long as he is eating and drinking normally, I would not be concerned. If he begins to vomit or loses his appetite, then I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look at him and perform some diagnostic testing such as x-rays to help rule out a foreign body obstruction from the plastic. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

As long as the pieces ingested are small, they will likely pass in the next 24 hours. Monitor for lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, abdominal pain or straining to defecate. These are symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian.

Yes, I would still be concerned until he has ate and passed stools for at least 72hours after swallowing the plastic and even this would not completely guarantee there is not a piece in the stomach which could move later. Items can get stuck anywhere along the stomach and intestines and some can even cause partial obstruction allowing food to pass until something else gets stuck behind it. Try to avoid toys he can break up and always supervise him playing with toys if he is destructive

If he is acting normal with a good appetite, you can continue to monitor. If he still vomits or starts with bloody diarrhea, then you need to get him checked by a vet. There is nothing else you can give to help him pass the rest, but since it is small pieces hopefully he has already passed most of it
