Why are my dog's jaw, shoulder, and armpit lumps swollen for months?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 5 months old | 30 lbs

My dog has golf ball size swollen areas on bother sides of her jaw, shoulders, and under her arms. It's been swollen since she was pregnant so 2 months and it won't go away. Yesterday they started to swelling up bigger than a golf ball, it makes it hard to breath and very sick and cranky. We gave her some allergic medicine, and that helped her feel better but the swelling didn't go down.

Poor Sweetheart! The areas that you are describing and showing in the pictures appear to be lymph nodes, which get larger in times of infection (bacteria, viruses, and fungus) depending on the area of the body the infection is in. The lymph nodes can also be enlarged with cancerous cells. Sweetheart should definitely be examined by a vet, especially because the areas have been enlarged for such a long period of time, to determine the cause and determine an appropriate treatment.
