My dog swallowed a beef tendon. Is it safe or should I be concerned?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 8 months and 19 days old | 23.6 lbs

My dog swallowed a small piece (maybe 2 inches) of beef tendon as I was trying to take it from him. They're supposed to be completely digestible. Should I be concerned?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think that Sirius should be fine. Just be careful with smaller pieces that are swallowed whole as there is a chance of it getting stuck in the esophagus. You’d know if that happened because he’d be hard swallowing, drooling and regurgitating. I hope the helps and I wish Sirius the best!
