My java finch has a head injury and is bleeding. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | unspayed | 0 lbs

I have a female java finch with a head injury. When I first noticed it ( about 20 minutes ago) I nabbed the bird and cleaned her head, she was not able to open her left eye and was bleeding from the mouth and nose. I applied pressure and the bleeding stopped. Then I stuck her in a small quarentine cage with a perch, clean water, and food. She is currently sleeping and not having any problems moving around, I believe the cause of the injury was her bad eyesight, she's an albino. Thank you.

Since Birdy was bleeding from both the nose and mouth, it would be best to seek veterinary care immediately to make sure there are no internal injuries that could be causing her further problems. Keeping her in a hospital cage while she recovers is a great thing to do, but it's always best to rule out any other injuries or underlying illnesses, especially if she was bleeding profusely or very badly injured.
