My dog had surgery, now has swelling and a bleeding neck wound. ER?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Schnoodle | Male | neutered | 2 years and 3 months old | 18 lbs

My dog had surgery on wed. was fine until sat at 4 am, his cheeks/jaw line were swelling. Took him to the vet. Only thing we could figure was an allergic reaction to pain meds. Got Benadryl, cortisone and antibiotic injection sat. Just now we see blood tinged fluid on my sheets. He now has an open wound under his neck (nowhere near surgery site) leaking blood tinged fluid. I️ have wrapped him lightly with a towel to apply pressure and catch fluid. Ok to wait til 730 to see vet? Or need ER

I wonder if the swelling was unrelated to the surgery and was actually a spider bite or something similar? If he is comfortable and it is not bleeding (just blood tinged fluid), then I think waiting to see your primary veterinarian would be appropriate. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon.
