My dog ate donuts and is vomiting. Should I take him to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Male | neutered | 3 years and 9 months old | 36 lbs

My 4 yr old beagle Blu ate 8 coconut donuts out of my DD box w/o my knowledge. Whole donuts!! Didn't discover this until he took several trips to eat kibble and green beans from food bowl- as a beagle he inhales his 2 small feedings. He had normal stool and pee outdoors. Began vommitting few hours later - 5 spots in house (all on carpet) chunks, stringy spit and foam over span of 5 hours. Had in and out belly heaving with initial vommit. Gave him small bit of water and within minutes he was gag

I hate to hear that Blu Bear is sick. Eating 8 doughnuts will do that to him. If he seems to be really miserable or if his gums are dry to the touch, I would advise to take him into the veterinarian tonight. The doctor can give him an injection to stop vomiting and some subcutaneous fluids to dehydrate him. If he seems relatively happy and his gums are nice and moist, offer him only very small amount of water and no food until morning. Feed him boiled chicken and white rice for the next 3 days. If he is still sick tomorrow morning, take him into the vet for treatment. I hope this helps!
