My cat seemed pregnant for 7 weeks, but now she's in heat. Is she?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 9 months and 17 days old

Hi. I have a female cat that I think is pregnant. She would be about 7 weeks into her pregnany as of today, and her belly has gotten bigger and is sticking out on the sides. She hasn’t gone into heat for those 7 weeks, but today she’s acting like she’s in heat and has mated a few times with my male cat. Was she pregnant for those 7 weeks? And if she was, why is she going into heat? Thank you

Great question! If Luna is currently mating, then no she is not pregnant. Cats will only mate when they are in heat. It could be that she has recently gained weight, and that is causing her belly to get bigger. There is a rare condition in cats called a false pregnancy, which is where a cat shows signs of being pregnant without being pregnant, but again as I said that is rare in cats. It could be a remote possibility however. Given that she is now mating again, I would say she isn't pregnant. I hope this helps!

Yes it is possible Luna is pregnant, especially if she has been outside and/or around unneutered male cats in the house. The best way to know if she is pregnant or not is to take her into the vet, and I would do that in the morning. The vet can do x-rays to confirm a pregnancy, and using those x-rays can tell you how many kittens she is carrying.
