Does petting my Jenday Conure make her think I'm her mate or lay eggs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 7 months old | 100 lbs

How do I know if I as an owner is causing my jenday cornure to change hormonally and if I am making her think i am her mate. I read that stroking and touching your bird does this but my girl has always loved cuddles , hugs and kisses. I never knew that touching her could spark her to think I am her mate and cause her to produce eggs. She is 2.5 years and how do I stop loving her as after reading various articles I dont want to cause her harm but how do I not love her as I love her to bits.

You stroking or petting her has nothing to do with her thinking you are her mate or causing her to produce eggs. She would produce eggs anyway even with no male around. You do not have to change or do anything differently. Just make sure she is on a high quality diet so she doesn't become calcium deficient or egg bound by laying eggs. You are not causing her any harm so don't worry! Hope this helps. Best wishes.
