Cat lethargic, vomiting after cortisone shot. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year and 4 months old | 9 lbs

Our cat got a cortisone shot this morning for an allergy to a food. Now she is really lethargic, didn't eat dinner, and threw up a little bit ago. Will this go away soon, or should we take her back to the vet?

Hi there and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! My recommendation would be to have Mona seen again by her veterinarian. While reactions to injections such as cortisone are not common, they can happen. Reactions may include vomiting, inappetence, lethargy, and sometimes diarrhea. It is possible she may have had a reaction to the injection, however, there are also other medical causes for Mona's symptoms so it is a good idea to have Mona seen so other causes can be ruled out and Mona can get the necessary treatment. I hope this helps and thank you again for posting!
