My kitten has a painless lump after vaccination. Is it an emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 29 days old

My 13 week old kitten has a lump between her shoulder blades. It appears to be painless and can move about under the skin. She had her first vaccination 3 weeks ago. What could it be? Is this an emergency?

Great question! This lump could be a localized reaction to the vaccine if the lump is in the area where the vaccine was given. Other options could be a cyst or a benign tumor. Given it's not painful and if she is otherwise acting normally, this isn't an emergency. Keep an eye on this lump, and if it doesn't go down over the next couple of days or gets bigger, then I would have Poppy seen by a vet. Good luck, I hope this helps!

If she is acting otherwise normally I would not be alarmed. This is a local reaction that should resolve on it's own in a few weeks. If it does not resolve, or she starts to act ill, then she will need to see a vet.
