Why is my dog shivering with bladder stones? Is he in pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 13 years and 5 months old | 22 lbs

My dog has been shivering and acting lethargic. The vet found stones on his bladder and scheduled a surgery in 2 weeks. My dog is urinating fine, no accidents, every 6 hrs or so, he has a health appetite...the only symptom is the shiver and its persistent... He seems a little clumsy at times... On his blood work they found some liver values a little high (the vet said it could be stress related) and calcium. I am still concerned. I got a 2nd opinion and the vet agreed with the 1st diagnosis

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. It sounds as if there is a consistent diagnosis amongst the 2 veterinarians that have seen pugsly. That being said, the shivering could be pain related. The stones can be quite uncomfortable and if he is not on any pain medications this could be why. Of course if the temperature is too cold this could also be why, so ensuring it is an adequate temperature inside would help as well. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
