My hamster has a red lump and is scratching. Any home remedies?

My hamster has a large red lump on his left side which he is scratching constantly. But he is eating and drinking well and does not even bite when the area is touched. Other than going to the vet, is there any in-home treatment I can try first?

This appears to be a mass of some sort on your hamster. Depending on the age of your hamster, it is likely either an abscess or a tumor. I would recommend having your hamster checked out by a vet to be accurately diagnosed. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck.
