My newborn puppy won't nurse, is losing weight, and seems weak. Help!

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 18 days old | 5 lbs

I have a 2/57 and 4/7 old pup that was drinking on mom and now all of a sudden wont latch. He drinks the formula from syringe but seems much less active than the other pups. There has been a weight loss of 112 grama since last night as well. What should I do

Considering the puppy is losing weight and failing to thrive, I would bring him into your local vet for an exam to check for any physical deformities that may be affecting his ability to nurse properly and eat, and for any potential illnesses or issues that could be causing him to not do as well. If he is able to eat with a bottle, I'd also recommend increasing his feedings if he still seems hungry, to try and keep weight on him and get him back up to speed.
