My bunny always seems so hungry. Am I feeding her enough food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Female | spayed | 8 months and 7 days old | 3 lbs

I have a 8 month old Netherland Dwarf bunny and I give her 1/4 cup of pellets in the morning, unlimited amount of hay all day, and a handful of spring mix lettuce & a whole carrot before I go to bed. But she always seems soo hungry. For example, everytime I give her pellets in the morning, she eats it like she hasn't eaten in weeks, the same thing when I give her her veggies at night. What should I do? I don't want to overfeed her but I always don't want her to seem so hungry..

As long as she is at a good weight and not too skinny then I wouldn’t worry about it. Most rabbits I see are over weight and a lot of the health problems are associated with their weight. She may be “saving” her appetite for her favorites. However limiting them is important so that she does eat some hay which is very important to keep a healthy GI tract. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
