Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Female | spayed | 23 lbs

I have a French bulldog who had back surgery around six months ago and she just recently got a tight pocket of fluid on her back and was wondering if I need to get it looked at or what it’s caused by and what I can do to help it at home if vet treatment isn’t required thank you

Hopefully it is what is called a seroma, or pocket of draining fluid. This can happen with almost any type of surgery. However, the bigger concern would be if it is an abscess. It would be extremely dangerous to have an infection over the surgery site. I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by your surgeon or regular veterinarian to make sure there is no sign of infection. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon.
