My cat's eye is inflamed with discharge & fur loss. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 5 months and 5 days old

After being out exploring for 4 hours hes returned with discharge around my cats eye and has fur loss not to mention it looks looks pink and inflammed, I've tried cleaning his eye lightly with a warm damp cotton bud, I presumed it could be an eye infection or conjunctivitis but it doesn't seem to be affecting the eye and mainly around it. Does anyone happen to know what it could be? (Will be taking to vets first thing tomorrow)

I would agree that you are correct that it could be an infection. I would recommend tonight to flush his eyes with sterile saline in case he got something in there. If he is rubbing his eyes, make sure he wears an elizabethan collar to protect them from scratches. Keep your appointment tomorrow. Thank you for using Pet Coach!
