My dog was bitten by a street dog. Is he safe from rabies after vaccination?

2 day ago my dog bitten by a street dog what should I do my dog vaccinated about one and half year ago does it chance to get rabies. what is the cure?

If Omi has been vaccinated against rabies a year and a half ago, depending on the brand of vaccine given, he may still be protected against rabies. If his rabies vaccines is one that needs to be boostered every three years, then he will still be protected and will not get rabies from this street dog. Have him seen by a vet today get a booster to be safe. Unfortunately there is no cure for rabies, it is ultimately fatal. Hopefully, however, Omi is still protected and safe :-)

    Hello. Unfortunately, not having a rabies vaccination for three years does leave a gap in protection, but if he was bitten weeks ago & is perfectly normal & happy & showing no signs of illness, then he still had adequate protection ( or the street dog did not have rabies ). Rabies is spread through the saliva, but must be introduced into the body through an open wound. Ingested virus will be inactivated in the GI tract. So, no worries here. Just be sure your dog receives his annual booster on time & you will never have to worry about rabies. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

Hello, and thanks for using Boop by Petco. The most important thing is that your dog was vaccinated for Rabies prior to this attack, and that you boostered his vaccine again afterwards. The rabies vaccine is quite effective, and boostering the vaccine after the attack will help in case one of the unvaccinated dog did have rabies. Ideally, it would be beneficial to observe all 3 dogs for 10 days after the attack, but you have done everything right with your own dog. If that third missing dog did have rabies and has since died, then the other two (unvaccinated) dogs would likely need to be euthanized, and your dog would need to be closely monitored for several months - but the risk of your dog contracting rabies with an up-to-date vaccination status is very very low. My friend has been bitten by a neighbors dog. The owner said the dog was vaccinated against rabies. The owner then said to him that he will be bringing him to the doctor ON TUESDAY for him to get injected for anything to avoid any future consequence.
I think if the owner of the dog takes him to a doctor for an exam and possible treatment of the bite, he should also bring something from the veterinarian who vaccinated the dog against rabies stating so. If the dog was vaccinated, then there is no danger of your friend contracting rabies. However, dog bites can get infected, so your friend may need some wound treatment.

The vaccine prevents the dog from getting rabies and is very good job at doing this, but no vaccine is 100% effective. However, there is a very low chance he will ever get rabies if properly vaccinated. Make sure he gets that next vaccine in two days and another one in a year. Unfortunately there is no way to test for rabies at this time. All you can do is avoid and confine animals that are showing signs of rabies. If your dog was vaccinated for rabies a month ago then he is protected against rabies but he could still suffer from an infection and for that reason i recommend taking him to the vet in order to get him an antibiotic course.

As long as your dog has been vaccinated against rabies then he should be just fine, though you will want to make sure the bite from the other dog gets infected. Typically though the biting animal would need to be quarantined for 10days to monitor for any signs of rabies (neurological signs) As for your friend that was bitten, she should also monitor that her bite does not get infected if your dog broke skin and made her bleed. If no skin was broken there is no threat because rabies is transmitted through saliva. But, to be extra cautious. You could also keep a close eye on your dog over the next 10 days to monitor for any abnormal behaviors or neurological issues.

My dog got rabies vaccine on 28th october last year and so it writes that vaccine expired on 28th october of this year. I didn’t have a chance to take him to vet to get second rabies vaccine, I will tomorrow, that will be three days after the vaccine
Although it is highly recommended that all vaccinations are completed on time, especially the Rabies vaccine, 3 days overdue should be fine. Hugo should still be protected from the immunity he developed in response to his first vaccine one year ago. I would advise taking extra precautions during these three days and keeping Hugo indoors and away from other dogs, and other animals. Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! If your dog is vaccinated then he should be fine but I would have the rabies boostered. If your dog is over due then he should be boostered and put in a 6 month quarantine. If he is NOT vaccinated and the dog that bit him has been confirmed to be Rabies positive your dog should be euthanized. If you are not sure if the dog that bit him is truly positive for rabies then Bruno should be quarantined for 6 months. I wish you the best!

If the dog's rabies vaccine expired this recently the dog should still be protected against rabies, as we believe the vaccine probably is effective even past the expiration date, particularly this close to the date. If the dog was showing signs of neurological disease, this could be more concerning, but if you do not have open wounds on your skin then transmission is much less likely. Most transmission occurs via bite wounds, though there are rare cases of saliva getting into the eyes nose or mouth. If the dog was showing signs of rabies, then the head can be submitted for rabies testing if the dog hasn't been cremated. If the dog was under veterinary supervision for his illness, the veterinarian can let you know if any of his symptoms were suspicious for rabies. The dog's veterinarian is the one to talk to about his vaccination status as well. If he had been vaccinated regularly for years then it is less concerning. If the last Rabies vaccine a year and a half ago was not Tiger’s first Rabies vaccine ever, he should still have antibodies in his system/be at least partially protected. If the Rabies vaccine a year and a half ago was his first rabies vaccine ever, he should receive another one now (ideally a year after the first) which would be good for 3 years. Good luck!

If Cooper has been vaccinated for rabies this year, then no there is no chance of him having rabies. The rabies vaccine lasts either a year or three years depending on the brand given. You have no need to worry.
