What to do when my dog has a seizure? Milk, massage, or space?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Female | spayed

Hi, my sisters dog Leela has epilepsy and she takes medication. My grandma and my sister believe that milk will calm or reduce an episode. I don’t really believe that milk helps in any way though. Does milk help? I read somewhere that when a dog is having a seizure the best thing to do is give the dog some space, but my family believes that massaging the dog is the way to reduce the episode.

Milk will definitely not help with seizures, neither will massaging her. when a seizure occur the best thing to do is to turn the lights on and close the curtains as light can sometimes trigger or make seizures worse.
