Why is my 7-week puppy sick, dry heaving, won't vomit, and bloated?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 27 days old | 3.5 lbs

I have a 7 week old puppy they was feeling really sick yesterday. She would walk around gaging and dry heaving. She almost vomited twice but refused to actually vomit. I'm not sure why she didn't want to but I knew it would make her feel better. She now has a bloated stomach and I'm not sure if they are related. Can you tell me why she refused to vomit and why she is bloated now

So cute! She could have a parasite, infection, or an upset stomach from something she ate. You could take a stool sample to her vet and have it tested for parasites and then your vet can prescribe an appropriate dewormer based on the results. You could also add a probiotic to her diet and see if that helps, too.

    Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Puppies can get dehydrated and very weak and sick very quickly if they are vomiting. Vomiting can be caused by something stuck in the stomach, or eating something that has just upset the stomach, or viruses that upset the stomach. I would strongly recommend having Kingston seen by a vet right away (emergency clinic if your vet is not available), as vomiting sick puppies can get very very sick and die quite quickly if not treated.     At 7 months old June can become dehydrated quickly. If she continue vomiting she needs to see a vet. Or is she develops diarrhea with it. Puppies are very susceptible to parvo virus. Withhold food for 6 hours and try to encourage her to drink. If she continues to vomit get her to a vet

Poor Lola! She could have an infection, parasite, or an upset stomach from eating something. If she is otherwise acting normal then you could withhold food for 6 hours and then try a small amount of a bland diet, like boiled chicken and white rice. You could also add a probiotic to her diet, Fortiflora or Proviable. If the vomiting continues or she becomes lethargic then she needs to be examined by a vet as soon as possible. Your vet can test a stool sample for parasites and then prescribe medications to help treat. Hope she feels better soon!

Your puppy may have a virus (other than parvo) or may have eaten something he shouldn’t have that is causing a blockage in his intestines. Intestinal parasites can also cause these symptoms and even though the fecal test was negative I would recommend deworming him if you haven’t already. Your puppy may just need supportive care, like fluids and nausea medication, to help get him through this illness. Sometimes the exact cause of the illness is never determined but the pup recovers just fine. If your puppy continues to dry heave (tries to vomit with nothing coming up) you may need to take him back to the vet. Occasionally these puppies need hospitalization to help get them through. I got a new puppy on Saturday. When I gave him his dry food, he ate it really fast and then threw it up. I started hand feeding and that seemed to work. Now, he's throwing up clear watery bile and has foamy diarrhea. I tried giving him some can pumpk
He is adorable! He could have an infection, parasite, or an upset stomach from a change in food. I don't think he needs to have hundreds of dollars of test but it would definitely be a good idea to have your vet run a fecal test including Giardia to make sure he doesn't have a parasite. Your vet can prescribe a dewormer based on the test results and other medications to help control the vomiting and diarrhea. You could also add a probiotic to his diet, like Fortiflora or Proviable and see if that helps, too. Feeding him a bland diet, like boiled chicken and white rice may help, as well. Hope he feels better soon!

Can symptoms include dry heave with frothy mouth, but no diahroea just loose stool in two week old puppy? No temperature. (Coccidiosis)
With these symptoms in such a young puppy I would be concerned about intestinal parasites (hookworms, roundworms, coccidia), parvovirus or a congenital defect. I would recommend taking the young pup to the vet to be checked out. If the puppy is not eating well or is losing a lot of fluids through vomiting and diarrhea then she will most likely need supportive care. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Boop by Petco. So sorry that she isn’t feeling well. She should be examined and treated by a vet in your area. She could have an infection or parasite and your vet can test a stool sample to help determine the cause. She may need fluids to prevent dehydration and medications to control the vomiting and diarrhea.

I just took in five wk old puppy who's mother died...her stomach very bloated but she's very active and eats wet food well..
I would recommend a vet check to determine if there are nay underlying medical causes but the fact she eats well is a good sign. Monitor for regular stools and no pain or vomiting and ensure she is dewormed regularly with an appropriate puppy wormer (every 2-4 weeks depending on the product). Keep her isolated from other dogs (especially dog parks etc) until she is fully up to date with her vaccines

He could have an infection or a parasite causing the vomiting and diarrhea. He should be examined by a vet for treatment. Your vet can test a fecal sample to determine if he has a parasite and then prescribe medications to help treat the problem.

My 3 pound puppy threw up three times today. Twice within two minutes and the next about 30 minutes later after giving her a little goats milk. She will wake up and start to play and bite me and then will start dry heaving for a few seconds and stop.
Poor girl. Unfortunately my major concern here is that Winnie may have a foreign body. I would highly recommend fasting her for 6hrs and then offer her a small portion of boiled plain chicken or lean ground turkey and white rice and small amounts of non-flavored Pedialyte to keep her hydrated until you can get her seen by your vet. The vet needs to do a complete physical examination and likely will recommend x-rays if a foreign body ingestion is suspected. Best case scenario is that Winnie has a really upset stomach from something she ingested and not a true obstruction. However, the next best thing is to get her seen by your vet as soon as they are open in the morning. I do hope that Winnie feels better soon! Best of luck and take care

A rounded tummy in a puppy is most commonly caused by intestinal worms. It can also cause Yogi to pass gas. I would take him into the vet today for an exam, and bring along a fecal sample. The vet can examine his feces under the microscope for intestinal worms, and can prescribe him a deworming treatment. He will need one every two weeks until he is 12 weeks old. Then one every month until he is six months of age, and after that he should be dewormed once every three months.

Abby needs to be examined by the veterinarian today. She is too young to be protected from diseases and certain viruses, including Parvo, can present like this. Other possible causes of vomiting include parasites, eating something she shouldn’t have or getting in to medications...etc. Abby is too young to have the reserves of adult dogs and so she needs intervention earlier. Bring in a sample of stool for testing for Parvo and parasites. Best of luck.
