Why does my cat's eye look bad after waking up? Injury or infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered

My cat's eye looks like this after he wakes up. It then gets better after an hour or so. He stayed at my parents house for a few days and then he got this. We expect that he might have hit a cactus. Can this be the case and what should we do?

Litas is a handsome boy! Litas could have scratched the cornea or he may be dealing with a viral infection. Corneal scratches are painful. I would recommend to take him into the vet for a special dye to be applied to his eye to look for damage. Its a very simple procedure that will tell you whats going on. Treatment is based upon the results. I hope he starts feeling better soon!
