My hamster is straining to pee with a brown bulge. What to do?

Hi! I have a young Syrian hamster that I adopted just a few days ago. I also notice that he has trouble peeing. He got into a pee stance but nothing came out. Then he checked his “pee area” and there was a brown bulge. He seems fine otherwise; he eats and drinks normally, and exercises and sleeps regularly. Not sure what to do about this. Thanks for any help

If Benji is straining/attempting to urinate and is unable to do so it is best to seek veterinary care immediately. It is possible there is an issue such as an underlying urinary infection, or even a blockage of the urethra/urinary tract if he is unable to go at all which is considered a medical emergency. If Benji continues with these symptoms or is unable to urinate, care is needed.
