New puppy: Vet visit, shots, deworming, and pet insurance advice?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 2 days old

HI, I just got a 1 month old pit mix puppy. He has not been dewormed nor shots. When should I bring him in to get a visit? Is there health insurance I should purchase for him?

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Congrats on your puppy! We start vaccines (DHPP) around 7-8 weeks of age. You can set up his first exam and deworming now but he is too young to start vaccines. We give the DHPP vaccine every 3-4 weeks starting around 7-8 weeks until they receive 2 past 12 weeks of age. I’m a fan of Pet insurance. I recommend visiting: https://www.petinsurancereview.com/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvciYqIbC1wIVmYizCh2lTQMNEAAYASAAEgLBwPD_BwE. I have Petplan for my dog and cat but I heard Embrace is good as are many others. I think this website will help you decide which company and plan is best for you. I hope this helps and I wish you and Kane the best!
